Proper ventilation helps to provide comfort and good health.

Whether we are talking about a state or county correctional facility, Minnesota Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Department or local Police Department building they all have one thing in common. Each organization has an obligation to provide their employees and "guests" with a comfortable and healthy environment.

Unique challenges are often presented by the nature of the business.

Many correctional and law enforcement facilities consist of multiple floors, office space, storage areas, garages and detention cells that are connected by a maze of narrow hallways.

Security is of great concern and many of these areas require that their doors remain closed, which creates air flow issues. Other areas such as dinning halls, recreation rooms and offices with cubicles are open and provide logistical issues of their own.

Special consideration must be given to the durability and design of all heating and cooling elements for a variety of reasons including the possibility of:

  • Harsh treatment and vandalism.
  • Potential for make-shift weapons.
  • Potential for concealing drugs and weapons.
  • Potential for harm.
  • Need for conserving space.
